Description
In addition to sectoral laws such as HIPAA, many countries have passed comprehensive privacy laws in the last several years. In the US, there is no federal privacy law but 19 states (and counting) have passed their own. As enforcement of these laws has increased, regulators have especially focused on highly regulated industries such as healthcare. Join us for a discussion of the “state of the union” in privacy laws and enforcement, with a special focus on challenges faced by healthcare companies.

She has a focus in Privacy, Data Protection, and Privacy Technology services, and has consulting experience working across several markets including hospitality, retail, financial services, insurance, technology, life science, industrial, and nonprofits. Taryn has experience advising and delivering privacy program solutions ranging from maturity assessments and program development to technology implementation. With a cross-functional background in risk management, data modeling, and business process management, she can effectively engage across executive leadership, business units, and technology teams to reconcile regulatory requirements and design risk-based, practical solutions. Taryn served clients as their outsourced Privacy Officer, driving program strategy and leading the implementation of various privacy initiatives to comply with global and domestic data privacy regulations. She serves as an outsourced Data Protection Officer (DPO), providing guidance and monitoring compliance for multiple global companies. She is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) and Certified Information Privacy Professional/US Private Sector (CIPP/US), Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP), and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE). |
 | MARK MELNYCHENKO, CIPT Privacy Technology LeaderBDO Mark is a managing director in the firm’s Privacy & Data Protection practice and leads the privacy technology practice area. With over 25 years of experience in privacy, technology and engineering he helps his clients to evaluate and implement global programs, providing deep experience in building robust data inventories and implementing privacy rights automation, consent/preferences and vendor risk management solutions based on US state and international privacy laws. Mark works closely with organizations in the retail, travel and hospitality, food manufacturing, quick service restaurant, entertainment and sports, and technology industries. He has formerly served in executive leadership roles as Chief Technology Officer, Vice President, and Director of Engineering and is comfortable working with all levels of an organization. Mark is a business leader who works closely with his teams to deliver quality and actionable deliverables to clients. His practice focuses on providing privacy technology transformation, which allows his clients to optimize environments from manual to automated processes, comply with various laws, and develop sound risk management practices. He is experienced across multiple platforms where he and his team provide architectural guidance and implementation services. |
